This mantua and petticoat illustrates the grandest style of court dress. The wearer had to go sideways through doors but the dress had a large area to display decoration. The flowers here are botanically accurate and were a feature of Rococo embroidery, along with patterned silks and printed textiles of the 1740's and 1750's in England. It is embroidered with silks and printed textiles. The dress can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
