The False Acacia was one of the first introductions from North America. It has thrived and very occasionally seeds itself. It forms a massive tree up to 25m. It has coarsely ridged shedding bark and reddish twigs that bear spines. The white flowers appear in June on hanging spikelets. It has pinnate leaves in pairs of 3 - 10. The flowers ripen to give rise to flattened pods 5-10cm long. Picture taken 1st May 2007 at Cardington, Bedfordshire.
