Garderobe - toilet
The garderobe - toilet in the castle was very draughty as it was just chute right through the wall of the castle. All waste dropped on the ground around the castle walls.

Well
The well is situated just insdie the Castle keep. It is 15m deep. When the castle was built the wall of the well extended up to the first floor. A windlass and leather bucket would have been used to get the water out of the well.

Colechester Castle - This carving may have been made by a bored guard on duty at the foot of the Great stairs.
