Base of castle wall
The slope at the base of the wall, makes the use of a seige tower or tunnelling by attackers less effective.

Well
The well is situated just insdie the Castle keep. It is 15m deep. When the castle was built the wall of the well extended up to the first floor. A windlass and leather bucket would have been used to get the water out of the well.

Guards seat
The seat is situated just behind the main door to the castle. The castle only ever came under seige once in 11216. The carvings in the stone above the seat may have been made a 'bored' guard.

Portcullis slot in d...
A portcullis would have been dropped infront of the door in time of attack. The portcullis was made of wood covered in metal. The mechanism for raising and lowering the portcullis was situated in a room above the doorway.

Garderobe - toilet
The garderobe - toilet in the castle was very draughty as it was just chute right through the wall of the castle. All waste dropped on the ground around the castle walls.
