The memorial is located in Kensington Gardens,oppostie the Albert Hall. It was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband, Prince Albert who died in 1861. The Gothic revival memorial was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The sculptor Henry Hugh Armstead coordinated the work of several arists of the Royal Academy. The memorial opened in 1872. It consists of a statue of Prince Albert surrounded by sculptural Frieze. There are four groups depicting Victorian industrial arts and sciences and four more groups representing Europe, Asia, Africa and The Americas at the four corners.
