St. Oswald's Bay seen from the cliff edge looking eastwards towards Dungy Head & Lulworth. This is the remains of a former cove, similar to Lulworth Cove but smaller, which has been opened up by the sea. As more of the Portland stone was breached and eventually eroded away in this area the sea gained access to the softer rocks behind. The picture shows the high chalk cliffs. In the distance is the low slumped Wealden strata and seaward of this vertical thin-bedded Purbeck and Portland Stone.
